New Kitchen for a Deserving Family

Sharie and Corbin Spiderwick from Fort Saskatchewan are finally able to enjoy a meal in their home seated together with their growing family. They have two biological children (plus one lost at birth), two adopted children and three current foster children under the age of 4. Over the years, this couple has loved and cared for over 20 children in their community.Â
The Spiderwicks are recipients of the Kitchen Giveaway Contest by Mod Kitchens which received over 300 nominations. Ken Bergmann, owner of MOD Kitchens, wanted to bless a family in need and there is no doubt that the Spiderwicks are deserving.Â
They have a 1000 square foot bungalow from the 1970s and struggle to have enough space in their kitchen to meet the daily demands of feeding and preparing meals for a big family. Even sitting together at the dining table is a struggle – often having to have some family members eat meals on the couch in the living room.
This project really captures the power of community as MOD Kitchens brought together a crew of contractors, trade partners and material suppliers to accomplish this stunning renovation in just three weeks. Originally estimated to be a prize value of $20,000, no cap was put on the project and the overall costs with labour ended up being close to $50,000.Â
Tile and Stone Source was so pleased to play a small role in contributing the backsplash tile for the kitchen – the Marlow Desert 3 x 12 subway tile with a beautiful wavy texture on the surface. We think it looks fabulously modern and homey paired with dark granite countertops and the cabinets that designers of MOD Kitchens chose.Â
We wish the Spiderwicks all the best and hope they are able to enjoy their kitchen for years to come.Â
Kudos to all local partners involved in the project, spearheaded by MOD Kitchens: Robertson’s Plumbing and Gasfitting, Quality Electric, Fort Floors & Decors, Errol Betts with Sharpline Contracting, Lasting Impression Painting, Columbia Cabinets, Cosentino and Richelieu Hardware.
