Do you feel your kitchen needs a bit of updating but don’t have the money nor the time to do a full Reno? Does your bascksplash boast pink flowers from the 80’s and its really not your style? Maybe you don’t even have a backsplash and the wall is getting all dinged up and worn out from your cooking marathons. Adding a beautiful backsplash is an affordable and relatively easy DIY project.
A new Backsplash can update a kitchen from being traditional to trendy, or boring to bold!
Here are some things to keep in mind when choosing a backsplash for your kitchen, bathroom or bar:
Matching-
When doing a simple updated backsplash remember to take a look at the things you are not changing in your space ( eg cabinets, counter top, flooring, paint) and try to work with what you have existing to keep on budget.
Texture-
There is thousands of different textures in the tile world and picking the right one for you is very important. A glossy glass tile with minimal grout will be the easiest to clean but may not be the look you are trying to achieve. Regardless of what you choose we have many strong long lasting sealers (Dry Treat) and cleaners (Hannifin) to help you along the way.
Light-
Lighting is an important role in design. Different lighting and even different times of the day can change the look of the tile you have chosen. Make sure to take home a few samples that you like, and prop them up on the countertop then look at them different times of the day. The type of light you are using can affect the colour of the tile as well. Consider LED lights for a bright white light or halogen lights for a warm light.
Samples-
When selecting a backsplash it’s always helpful to bring in any samples of existing elements and pictures. Sometimes it may surprise you what works and what does not…this also saves you from lugging home 20 heavy samples. Bring in inspiration pictures as well; this helps when trying to explain to a designer or contractor what your vision for your space is. Check us out on Houzz.com for Ideas!
